  LOCAL RULES

Out of Bounds (Rule 27)


A ball is out of bounds if it lies:

a)    Beyond any boundary hedge, fence or stream even if not so marked.
b)    Beyond a line of white posts adjacent to any hedge , fence or stream.
c)   
Beyond a line of white posts forming the boundary of the course on the left hand side of the 18th fairway.
d)    On or beyond the road at the back of the 18th green.
e)    In over or below fairway level, the stream abutting the 5th, 6th 16th and 17th fairways.  A ball is out of bounds
       when it enters the strip of unmaintained grass, nettles or bramble on the edge of the banks unless otherwise marked.
f)    Inside a triangle of white posts to the right of the 9th and the left of the 12th fairway.

Water Hazards (Rule 26)

a
 Ordinary water hazards are defined by yellow posts or lines.
b)   Lateral water hazards are defined by red posts or lines.

PLEASE NOTE

Drop zones are provided for use on the 5th, 6th, 15th & 17th greens.  Lateral hazard rules do-not apply around these greens.

Immovable Obstructions (Rule 24-2)

Power Line Supports, Pump house & the Marker Post on the 11th fairway only are immovable objects and relief may be taken.

Overhead Cables (Rule 20-5)

A ball striking a cable must be replayed from as close to the spot where the original ball was played. The ball should be dropped in accordance to the above rule without penalty.

Stones in Bunkers (Rule 24-1)

Stones are movable obstructions.

Ground Under Repair (Rule 25-1)

Play is prohibited and relief must be taken from:
a)    Any area marked by white lines or markers.
b)    Temporary greens when not in play.
c)    Newly seeded areas.
d)    Roads, tracks, paths having artificial or natural surfaces or filled trenches whether or not marked.
e)   
New plantations defined by blue stakes.

PLEASE NOTE

The natural folds in the ground on the course (e.g. on the 7th and 16th fairways) are not drainage ditches and therefore relief may not be taken.

Staked Trees (Rule 24-2)

If a staked tree interferes with a players stance or intended swing relief without penalty must be taken.

Distance measuring devices (Rule 14-3)

Players may use "Distance Measuring Devices" in club competitions with the exception of those that qualify for externally run Competition Championships. However it was also decided they may not be used in Team Avalon matches or externally run Team championships, eg; The Somerset Bowl.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE:

Stroke play—Two strokes          Match Play—Loss of hole.
